I hope they have a updated version of this book because there is so many dvds that are not in the book. Alot of dvds do deserve to be in this book. I highly enjoyed this book and even bought a few dvds that were reviewed in it. The only problem I have is the author seems to enjoy the background of movies instead of the movies. MTV Road Trips U.S.A. (MTV Guides) ReviewI bought the book with one trip in mind and ended up being more interested in the American Highways section. There is so much info in this part of the book and it was easy to read. Except for New Mexico I had never considered a visit to any of these places. I didn't know that Nashville had a Parthenon, or how Branson got started. I like the way everything is organized, loved the suggestions for music, loved the humor, too. A Million Words And Counting ReviewI strongly recommend against buying this book. Paul Payack is not a linguist. His "Predictive Qualities Indicator," a proprietary algorithm that supposedly analyzes language in media, is nothing more than a common word count tool with a rip-off of the Flesch-Kincaid Readability test. Visit his web site for yourself (www.languagemonitor.com); he cites no sources (other than himself), provides no evidence for his claims and misuses linguistic terminology. The worst part: He likes to talk a lot about politicians and the passive voice. On the "'08 Election" page of his web site, he gives the sentence "There will be setbacks" as an example of passive voice. That is NOT passive voice; It's an active-voice existential progressive construction. Payack fancies himself as "The Word Man," but he can't distinguish between passive and progressive voice.A Million Words And Counting Overview

Man Bites Log: The Unlikely Adventures of a City Guy in the Woods ReviewMax Alexander ran a big risk with his book "Man Bites Log". Having recently moved to Maine from "Outastate", his comments on the locals and their scene could have alienated him beyond the pale.
As one of his subjects in this work, I was apprehensive, to say the least, when the book came out. Instead, I found a totally honest and somewhat funny approach to the life up here in the woods. Max captured the flavor and feel of our community, warts and all, and as a good reporter, he got it right. His comments on the actual events surrounding our neighbors are refreshing and honest. Even if you don't agree with his political views, he lays it all out as it is, and none of this is made up. Life can be hard but the humor he finds in these events is precious to those of us who lived through it all.
I look forward to the sequel!

One Little Secret ReviewOne Little Secret contains all the right stuff--good writing, deep characterizations and a great story from an author who lives in the midst of it. Bottke knows L.A. and all its burbs. And it shows. The Southland, with its sun, beach communities and Hollywood, almost becomes a character in the book.
Creating a twisting, totally non-predictable plot, Bottke infuses a witty chick-lit style to contemporary fiction. Her voice is fresh and unique. I was drawn into the story from the first page. Her characters are real and fall into the same traps we do. When the wife of one of her husband's law partners is condescending to her, Ursula wants to dig into the grocery cart, grab a fresh lemon pie and shove it in the woman's face--but knows she can't. I laughed out loud numerous times at Ursula's thoughts and reactions. And I blinked back tears a few times, too.
With characters I could relate to, I found myself getting angry at Nik, fearful that Ursula was heading toward trouble, and worried that Don, her husband, would be blind to a sexy new law partner's advances. There's conflict at every turn! A few times I wished I had Ursula's cell phone number. I'd call her up and yell at her. But as the story unfolds, Bottke kept surprising me with a new twist I hadn't expected.
In Ursula, Bottke gives us a portrait of a Christian woman living in a fallen world. She faces temptations; she sins but keeps going, assured of her Savior's love and forgiveness. How she shares her faith with those around her is well written, never schmaltzy or preachy. This reviewer gives it her highest recommendation--a must read!One Little Secret Overview
