This book is spot on, rich in the smallest details; a giant rotating Winchell's Donut; incubated baby chicks hatching in Exposition Park; Historic Angels Flight incline railway, and it is wonderfully written. Add to the mix a 'Sunday' Father gone too soon and a Mother whose daughter is 'only in the way' and you have the emotional, touching and at times heartbreaking tale of (We're Here Because We're Here) Growing up in Mid-20th Century Los Angeles". Instead of 'chapters' popular song titles cleverly divide the book into memories well worth the read, whether you grew up in Los Angeles, St. Louis or Shanghi.
