Tito Puente: When The Drums Are Dreaming ReviewI happen to be the son of Palladium Legend Joe Vega, who was mentioned in Ms. Powell's book about Tito Puente. She inaccurately reports that my father MAY have died of a drug overdose 5 years before I was born. I have attempted to contact her twice to talk about this matter and have it deleted from further pressings of the book, but she has insensitively chosen to ignore my emails.
I have no other recourse but to publicly ask people not to buy her book until she rectifies these slanderous comments. She may have been there to witness the accounts described in her book, but she has chosen to print rumor and hearsay rather than fact, which is inexcusable as an author, especially when it involves defaming someone's reputation. Since my father died in 1974, he is not here to defend his name and legacy. Also, most of the dancers of that era are dead and cannot speak in his defense. But his partner Freddie Rios from the 60's and 70's is still alive as well is my mother, who can certainly speak on the subject.
This woman has proven herself to be insensitive and totally oblivious to the fact that she is hurting someone's reputation. Sad behavior for someone of her age and status.Tito Puente: When The Drums Are Dreaming Overview
