Running Time (Midnight Classics) Reviewthe following 300 plus pages really begin to drag. While the mother of the child star Baby Jewell is quite the dynamo, Baby Jewell's character is never really developed. Lots of things happen to her over the years, but how she is affected by her extraordinary life is, for the most part, missing. This may have been the author's intent as one of the main themes of this novel is that the child actor only really exists when acting on the screen, and she exists to please her mother and do what she and others tell her to do. However this makes for sometimes dull reading when following her through over 60 years of her life. I just couldn't care what happens to her, as she never really becomes a fleshed out personality. The mother is by far the more compelling character, but even she becomes pretty tiresome after 400 pages. Yes, there are some fun looks at Hollywood, lots of name dropping and eccentric folks coming and going, but the novel rambles on far too long. I really enjoyed the author's "The Slide Area" and "The Goodbye People", both short story collections and I recommend these, but "Running Time", while occasionally interesting and fun, I would recommend only for hard core Old Hollywood fans, and even these folks may lose interest before the book ends. I would have given this review 2 1/2 stars if possible, didn't really like it, but didn't dislike it either.Running Time (Midnight Classics) OverviewWant to learn more information about Running Time (Midnight Classics)?
