The Lives of Ingolf Dahl ReviewAs a graduate student of Dahl's in the late 60's I am grateful to Dr. Linick for writing this book. Ingolf was a true Renaissance man--highly esteemed as a composer, conductor, pianist and teacher. His daily journals, written over a span of 42 years, reveal a highly complex man with major issues in both his artistic and personal life, hidden from most of his colleagues and friends (as well as his step-son). Those of us fortunate to be his students have continued to feel his deep influence on our artistic endeavors for all the years since his untimely death in 1970. I commend Dr. Linick for his candid, carefully researched and thought-provoking biography of this important musical figure. For those wanting to hear some of Dahl's compositions, I recommend "Defining Dahl," a CD of orchestral works conducted by another Dahl student (and classmate of mine at USC), Michael Tilson Thomas.
