Larry: The King of Rock and Roll ReviewA mild-mannered story about a girl, her dad and their dog. Dad is a less than motivated songwriter. Larry the Maltese completes a song that Tom was struggling with. Tom and Cathy find out that Larry talks! Tom and Larry become performers, and audiences go crazy over the singing dog. Larry's ego, however, gets the best of him and he strikes out on his own. Eventually he finds that he is not happy as the King of Rock and Roll. Likeable Cathy is the best-drawn character--the others are flat, and Larry is totally pugnacious. Each chapter signifies which character is speaking--that's helpful because it's hard to differentiate between the characters' voices. The first half of the story drags along in a monotone, then it picks up and shows hope for redemption. Overall, it's contrived and disappointing. Sorry Larry, you're really not a dog I'd like to be friends with.Larry: The King of Rock and Roll Overview
